Meet your experienced local guide, Kevin Hey. I originate from Mt Maunganui in the North Island and have been living in Queenstown for over 20yrs. I started guiding Segway tours in Queenstown in 2006. That could make me the most experienced Segway guide in the world! Haha!

Do you still enjoy it?

Even after all these years I still enjoy the job greatly. It’s a really fun product to work with.  I especially like the challenge of tailoring the trips to best fit the customers. Some groups are confident and ready to go after a few minutes. Judging their ability lets me make a few tweaks to the tours along the way so experienced riders get to do a bit more, while less confident groups get the support they need.

After training thousands of customers over the years, I can quickly tell what advice riders need to set them up for success. It’s very satisfying to take a nervous rider and help them overcome it and greatly enjoy the experience. There’s also the possibility to cater for special interests too. Whether that be more photos and a little video, information on specific topics or just playing around, there’s the flexibility to personalise the trips. Especially on the 2hr option.

What if we get a different guide?

That’s not going to happen as since 2020 I’ve been the only guide operating these tours in Queenstown. In the reviews customers consistently state how well looked after they felt by their guide to facilitate a safe and truly enjoyable experience. Therefore, you’re guaranteed to get the highly experienced and highly rated guide.

What do the reviews say about the guide?

Here’s a few comments from the most recent reviews on Trip Advisor:

  • Kevin’s quick tutorial had us comfortable rolling around in very quick time.
  • Kevin was great with his training & sense of humour.
  • Kevin was the perfect guide and made the experience amazing for the whole crew!

Surely, Kevin’s not always available though?

You’d be right about that. Running a 7 day a week business for 18 years has made me adapt to a different lifestyle than most. I keep a 7 day schedule open until I know I have plans for something else. At that point time is blocked out on the booking system. All advance bookings are honoured so holiday plans must be made well in advance.

So when should I book?

While at times I can still take bookings with only minutes notice, if there are any other bookings then that limits options. If anything else is planned options will be limited even further. Numerous customers unfortunately miss out for these reasons. Therefore, it pays to book as far in advance as possible. With the 24hr cancellation policy you can still cancel and get a full refund up until that time. Rescheduling is often available too.

Don’t want to pay the booking fee?

When booking though our website you can enter the promo code ‘nofee’. That will negate the booking fee and Segway on Q will pay it for you. That was worth reading until the end, wasn’t it? Haha! I look forward to receiving your bookings for your own amazing Queenstown Segway adventure with your experienced local guide.
