Segway on Q along with Grace Beauty & Massage provided some community support recently in the form of a garage sale fundraiser.
Donated goods
Andrea, from Queenstown Community Cats, provided most of the items for sale. Further donations were received from friends and other members of the Queenstown community who found out about what we were doing. The Segway van got fully loaded up with items from Andrea’s garage before we spent the rest of our spare time for the week setting it all up.
Home, business base & event location
The community support event was held at Kevin and Grace’s house in Queenstown. Kevin is the owner/operator of Segway on Q and the house is also the base for the business. Grace also runs her beauty and massage business from the house.
Extended
While the garage sale was only planned for the Saturday, it ended up running though Sunday too. There were so many great items to sell and interest kept coming through various channels over the course of the weekend. Some sales even continued into the next week. Everything left over was donated to the Salvation Army for further community support.
Fundraising
Nothing was priced and we let people pay whatever they wanted so there were some good bargains to be had. It was great to see that everyone offered a fair price for the goods they took though in recognition of the cause they were supporting. When it was all wrapped up, several hundred dollars were raised. Queenstown Community Cats and Happiness House were the recipients. All cash went to Happiness House who state their mission is to assist those in need encouraging healthy and empowering life choices. All the internet banking payments went to Queenstown Community Cats. They provide a cat rescue service.
Other community support
Segway on Q helps out various other community fundraisers during the year too. Most local primary schools and playcentres have benefited from trip vouchers. We’ve attended the Queenstown Primary School Fair every year it’s been on for the past 15yrs, even though Kevin’s kids have moved on! We sell $5 short rides to the kids and parents typically raising several hundred dollars each time. That’s a lot of rides! Many other child welfare causes have received vouchers too including neonatal, Make a Wish and others.
We appreciate the support of our customers to help us to continue providing some support to the local community.
